Out & About

Whitby offers it's famous St Hilda's Abbey ruins, busy quayside, quaint shops and wide choice of pubs, restaurants and cafés, as well as Captain Cook museum.

Runswick Bay provides wonderful sea views and a broad sandy beach for coastal walks, rock pooling and fossil hunting. There is a pub and café for afternoon tea.

Robin Hoods Bay attracts musicians and artists and you can find many local bands with regular slots in local pubs as well as inspiring art in the galleries and shops around the Bay.

Sandsend Beach is popular with both fossil collectors and fishing enthusiasts. It has a beck for safe paddling and rock pooling and the beach joins with Whitby sands for refreshing seaside walks.

Staithes is a picturesque fishing village with steep, winding streets, a sandy beach, a Captain Cook museum, restaurants and cafés

Scarborough offers a good Golf Club, Castle, Rotunda Museum, Art Gallery and the Scarborough Spa Express

The Cleveland Way winds 109 miles from Helmsley down the length of the Yorkshire Coast to Filey. Walk sections of this beautifully scenic walk.

Flamingo Land Theme park and zoo for excellent family fun days out.

Dalby Forest offers great walking and cycle trails, as well Go Ape Hill-to-Hill zip wires with fabulous views of the vale of Pickering.

North York Moors Railway is a heritage Steam Railway, running from Whitby to Pickering, often offering themed activities such as the NYMR War Weekend in October.

Bempton Cliffs is a nature reserve, run by the RSPB, best known for its breeding seabirds, including Northern Gannet, Atlantic Puffin, Razorbill, Common Guillemot, Black-legged Kittiwake and Fulmar.
